Lowell House Belltower, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA
The tower, built in 1928, was in need of extensive repairs and some replacement of original building fabric. The project included removal of all paint under lead abatement procedures, performed at between 100 and 195 feet above ground. The deteriorating wood siding was removed, along with aging wood balustrades, rails, finials, and capitols. The wood was then restored using both traditional and epoxy resin methods. New gold leaf was applied to the dome, all existing copper work was repaired and restored, and exposed areas were treated with a high-performance paint system.
